KATHMANDU:

"Jhinge Dau 2," the sequel to the Nepali family drama "Jhinge Dau," has released a Teej-season song titled "Kina Garchhau Aafno Khayera Kura Arkako," framed as a lighthearted rivalry between a jethani (elder sister-in-law) and deurani (younger sister-in-law), ahead of the film's cinema release scheduled for Asoj 2 (September 18) on the Nepali calendar.

The song features lead actors Keki Adhikari and Aanchal Sharma, with vocals by Babul Giri (also known as Dhan Bahadur Giri), and has circulated widely on social media during Teej, the festival widely celebrated by Nepali women in Nepal and across the diaspora involving fasting, singing and dancing. It follows the film's first released track, "Mahima Aamako," put out in late June, sung by Pramod Kharel and Manisha Sunar with lyrics by Krishnahari Baral and music by Arjun Pokharel, and dedicated to the theme of a mother's glory. That song features veteran actors Madan Krishna Shrestha and Mithila Sharma alongside Aryan Sigdel and other cast members.

According to Nepali media portals and the film's own promotional materials, "Jhinge Dau 2" continues the story from the original film, following the two sons of a character referred to as Khanalni as they search for their missing mother, set across rural and urban Nepal "in a bygone era." The sequel is described as leaning on sibling rivalry, comic misunderstandings and nostalgia, in keeping with the tone of the first film.

The film is directed by Gyanendra Deuja, produced under the Kapangadi Cinema and Film Crew Nepal banners, with cinematography by Bishnu Ghimire ("Kalpit"), editing by Mitra D Gurung, music by Arjun Pokharel and choreography by Ramji Lamsal. The cast includes Keki Adhikari, Aanchal Sharma, Mahesh Tripathi, Kushal Bista, Aryan Sigdel, Saroj Khanal, Vasundhara Bhusal and Chaityadevi Singh, among others.

The original "Jhinge Dau," based on a story by Bhim Nidhi Tiwari, has also been made available for streaming through the Cinemaghar app, which may be relevant for diaspora audiences abroad wanting to watch the first film before the sequel's theatrical run.
