Applications for the UK Government's Chevening Scholarship for 2027-28 close today, October 6, 2026. Under Chevening's official timeline, the deadline is 11:00UTC, which is 4:45 p.m. Nepal Time. After that, the online application system can no longer be opened. Applications opened on August 4, 2026.
Applicants should check the closing time shown in the live application portal before they submit.
Chevening is funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office and partner organizations. It pays for a one-year taught master's degree at a UK university. It covers tuition fees, approved economy travel, the UK visa cost, and arrival and departure allowances. Scholars also get a monthly living stipend, which is higher in London. However, fully funded does not mean every personal expense is paid and some costs fall outside the award.
Chevening began in 1983. It reaches more than 160 countries and territories and brings about 1,500 scholars and fellows to the UK each year. It says it has more than 60,000 alumni worldwide.
Who can apply from Nepal
Nepal is an eligible country. Applicants must:
- be a Nepali citizen
- hold an undergraduate degree that qualifies them for a UK master's course, completed at least two years before this deadline
- have at least 2,800 hours of work experience gained after that degree, from jobs, volunteering or internships, paid or unpaid
- choose three eligible UK master's courses
- return to Nepal for at least two years after the scholarship
Work experience from before graduation does not count. Chevening does not generally fund PhDs, distance-learning courses or part-time master's degrees. It says there is no upper age limit.
Applicants only have to name three courses now. Those who are selected must send at least one unconditional offer from an eligible course by July 8, 2027. Chevening advises applying to universities soon after submitting, because those deadlines differ.
Applications are first checked against the eligibility rules. Independent reading committees then score them against Chevening's goals, looking at leadership, influence, networking and career plans. Meeting the minimum rules does not guarantee an interview. Shortlisted applicants are told in mid-February 2027, and interviews take place at British embassies in March and April. Results begin from mid-June 2027, and studies start in September or October 2027.
Chevening has not announced a Nepal-specific number of awards or applicants. The key step for applicants today is to submit before the deadline and keep the confirmation.
