The Wall Street Journal reported that Chinese entities gave Iran satellite images of a US base in Jordan before the attack. Trump, flying home from Ireland on Sunday, waved the whole thing off.
"They basically do what we do," Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One. "When they say China spies on us, I say you're right and we spy on them too."
President Trump will host Chinese President Xi Jinping in Washington, D.C. on September 24, 2026 second in-person meeting of this year and the first-ever Xi visit to the White House under Trump's presidency.
When asked about on whether he'd actually bring this up at the summit, he just didn't answer.
Back in May, the US already sanctioned three Chinese satellite companies specifically for working with Iran's military. So Washington clearly had suspicions about exactly this kind of thing well before the Journal's story broke.
The attack that started all this hit Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan — a base that houses US forces and fighter jets. Three soldiers died. And it's not an isolated incident: 18 American service members have been killed across the region since February.
However, regarding the visit, there has been no official conformation or announcement from China's side yet.
