Police arrested 25 people in separate drug-related cases across Nepal, according to information released on October 8, 2026, by the Central Police News Room.
Police said the arrests were made during routine patrols and that suspected brown heroin, marijuana and nitrazepam were recovered. No item-by-item inventory or quantities have been released.
The arrests were reported in 11 districts:
- Jhapa: 4 arrested in the Khotang Hotel area of Damak
- Morang: 3 at Alka Marg, Biratnagar
- Sunsari: 4 in total, 3 at Nayabasti, Barahachhetra, and 1 in Itahari
- Lalitpur: 2 at Nakkhu Dobato
- Siraha: 2 at Pipra Tole
- Saptari: 2 at Bodebarsain
- Bardiya: 2 at Jamuni Bazaar
- Makwanpur: 2 at Sagarpath, Hetauda
- Surkhet: 2 in Birendranagar
- Dhading: 1 at Chambas
- Kaski: 1 at Nadipur, Pokhara
The three substances differ in legal and medical terms. Marijuana falls under Nepal’s narcotics-control framework, the Narcotic Drugs (Control) Act, 2033. Nitrazepam is a prescription sedative, and its recovery alone does not establish unlawful possession. Whether any suspect had a valid prescription has not been reported.
The composition and purity of the suspected brown heroin have not been confirmed by testing.
Police have not said whether charges have been filed, whether the suspects have been remanded in custody or taken to court, or whether the substances have been tested in a laboratory. The names and ages of those arrested have not been released.
