Nepal's women's volleyball team picked up its first victory at the 20th Asian Games on Sunday beating Kyrgyzstan 3-0 in straight sets in a classification match at Okazaki Chuo Sogo Park Gymnasium in Japan.
The win comes as a genuine relief after a rough start to the tournament Nepal had lost both its group-stage matches in straight sets, first to host Japan and then to Indonesia and while the team is already out of medal contention, Sunday's performance offers a more encouraging note to close out the campaign on.
Nepal dominated from the first whistle, taking the opening set 25-20, extending their control in the second 25-16, and closing out the match with another 25-20 set. With the win, Nepal advances to play Hong Kong next in the 9th-12th place classification bracket, rather than competing for a medal position.
