Nepal's World Cup hopes get lift as USA beat UAE in Dallas

Nepal's hopes of reaching the 2027 ICC Men's Cricket World Cup received an indirect boost this week after the United States beat the United Arab Emirates in a high-scoring League 2 match in Dallas.

The match was played on Oct. 5-6, 2026, as part of the ongoing tri-series in the United States.

The UAE posted 330 all out, and the USA chased it down with seven balls to spare. The win moved the USA to the top of the League 2 standings and put them on course to finish first.

Nepal was not playing, but the result matters to them. It keeps the UAE near the bottom of the table and lowers the chance that the UAE will overtake Nepal in the race for a top-three place.

League 2 of the 2023-27 cycle is a pathway to the 2027 World Cup. The top three teams earn direct entry to the 2027 World Cup Qualifier, where four teams will ultimately reach the World Cup.

Nepal is fighting to stay in the top three or four zone in a tight table that also includes the USA, the UAE, Oman and Namibia, among others.

Every UAE defeat makes it harder for them to climb above Nepal. It also improves Nepal's position relative to their rivals, even when Nepal's own points total does not change.

Nepal have already beaten both teams this year.

In April 2026, they beat the UAE by 37 runs in Dubai, a win described as crucial to keeping their World Cup hopes alive. After that match, Nepal had 14 points from 21 matches, just four points ahead of the UAE.

On May 22, 2026, Nepal beat the USA by 122 runs at TU Ground in Kirtipur.

Despite those results, Nepal have often sat around sixth or seventh in the table. That means almost every remaining match is critical.

Results elsewhere can only help Nepal, not guarantee qualification. To control their own fate, they must win their remaining League 2 matches.

The updated table, including points and net run rate, will show how much room Nepal have.

Their remaining fixtures and the exact results they need to finish in the top three will also come into focus. The Cricket Association of Nepal and the team management have not yet commented on how they view the race. For now, the USA's win in Dallas has given Nepal some breathing space. How much it counts will depend on what Nepal do in the matches still to come.
