Nepali cybersecurity company Cynical Technology has been selected for OpenAI's Credentialed Cyber Access Program, which the company describes as a major achievement for Nepal's cybersecurity sector.

The programme is expected to give Cynical Technology access to artificial intelligence tools designed to support cybersecurity research, vulnerability assessment and digital threat analysis. The company says it is the first Nepali organisation to do so.

Cynical technology will use AI- bases systems to examine digital environments, identify possible security weaknesses and analyze potential routes that attackers could use to enter protected systems.

The company says the tools will help security researchers process large amounts of technical information more quickly. They may also support the classification of vulnerabilities according to their seriousness and help teams decide which risks require immediate attention.

The programme is focused on defensive cybersecurity work, including system testing, threat analysis and the identification of weaknesses in software and digital infrastructure.

Cynical Technology plans to apply the knowledge gained through the programme to its security work and to contribute to the development of cybersecurity expertise in Nepal.

The company has also said it wants to use the opportunity to expand research, improve technical skills and strengthen the country's ability to respond to emerging cyber security threats.

Cyberattacks are becoming more automated and targeted, increasing the need for tools that can quickly examine vulnerabilities and detect suspicious activity. AI can help speed up that work, although human oversight, authorization and privacy safeguards remain necessary.

Why it matters?

Nepal's banks, government offices, telecommunication providers, hospitals and businesses increasingly depend on digital systems. Weaknesses in those systems can expose personal information, financial records and essential services to cybercriminals.

Access to advanced cybersecurity tools could help local experts identify risks earlier and improve defensive measures. However, the program's precise terms, level of access and technical limitations have not been fully disclosed.

The selection gives Cynical Technology an opportunity to work with advanced AI-based cybersecurity systems. Its long-term impact will depend on how the company uses the access, follows security and privacy safeguards, and applies the resulting knowledge in real-world protection work.
