Nearly a month on, Bhote Koshi flood death toll still climbing

As of 5:00 PM Sunday, 1,451 bodies have been recovered from the Bhote Koshi flood disaster out of which 1,449 were found across the affected districts, plus two additional deaths during treatment in Kathmandu as per Nepal Police update.

The toll has climbed by 42 since last Thursday's count of 1,409.

With Rasuwa and Chitwan both seeing the largest jumps which is a reminder that even a month on, this remains an active, ongoing recovery operation rather than a closed chapter.

District-wise break down of bodies

Chitwan 367, Nawalparasi East 232, Nawalparasi West 222, Rasuwa 236, Nuwakot 203, Gorkha 79, Dhading 72, and Tanahun 38

Of these, 1,292 bodies have now been safely managed through temporary burial, with identification still pending for most.

DNA sample collection has risen to 3,283 total out of which 1,286 are from the bodies and 1,997 are from relatives, up from 3,200 on Thursday.

Rasuwa saw the sharpest jump up by 37 bodies since Thursday signaling recovery work there, likely tied to the ongoing Upper Trishuli-1 tunnel operation, remains the most active front nearly a month into the disaster.
