Police arrested medical entrepreneur and activist Durga Prasai from his home in Bhaktapur on Monday morning, following a complaint about the alleged online remarks against a member of the parliament.
A team from the Central Cyber Bureau of Nepal Police took Prasai into custody on Monday morning, September 28(Asoj 12) and brought him into the Bureau. According to the police, the arrest is linked to a complaint filed by Rachana Khatiwada, a member of the House of Representatives from the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP).
The complaint says Prasai made offensive, character-damaging remarks about her online and on social media. Khatiwada had objected to those remarks in tears during a meeting of the House of Representatives. Her family filed a formal complaint at the Bureau.
An arrest warrant was issued on Friday.
As of now, the investigation is continuing. According to the reports, Prasai is expected to be present in court today brought by police to ask for more days in custody.
Prasai runs a medical business and is known for campaigns and public statements. He has been arrested repeatedly, including in November 2024, in March 2026, and on August 2, 2026. The August arrest came after he announced a movement to restore the Hindu state and the monarchy. It was for allegedly disturbing peace and security. He has been released by court orders each time.
