Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle is all set to travel to India for a two-day visit on Ashoj 1-2(Sep 17-18). This travel came along after accepting the invitation of Nirmala Sitharaman, his Indian counterpart.
The trip was confirmed after the announcement of Nepal's ambassador to India, Naveen Srivastava.This trip marks the first of the Finance Minister foreign visit since the August 26 flood.
Wagle is scheduled to meet Sitharaman as well as Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. Howver, no meeting with PM Modi is coonfirmed so far. The agenda to be discussed on the meeting are said to be regarding India- Nepal economic cooperation and the reconstruction after the flood.
With Nepal facing an estimated Rs 723 billion reconstruction bill from the August floods, the outcome of these discussions particularly any commitments on financial cooperation carries real weight for Nepal's recovery financing.
