Nepal streamlines driving license printing with new three-way government agreement

Nepal's Department of Transport Management, Department of Postal Services, and Security Printing Center signed a tripartite agreement Tuesday to streamline driving license printing and distribution.

Under the deal, signed at the Ministry of Infrastructure Development, license data from the Department of Transport Management's Electronic Driving License and Vehicle Registration System (EDLVRS) will go directly to the Security Printing Center's system, which will handle all printing.

Printed licenses will then be sent via the Department of Postal Services either to provincial transport offices or directly to applicants' addresses, based on preference.

The ministry said the change is meant to fix chronic technical problems and delays in license printing and delivery, covering both new applications and renewals. The agreement follows an earlier, separate deal in which Madhesh Province had already begun printing licenses independently with the Security Printing Center, sending its first batch of 3,081 licenses for distribution days before this broader agreement.
