UML's internal rift deepens as Gyawali's compromise report rejected by reform faction

A compromise report on CPN-UML's internal reorganization dispute, written by senior leader Pradeep Gyawali, is facing rejection from the very reform faction it was meant to satisfy.

UML had formed a task force to reconcile two competing reports on party reorganization: one from Vice Chairman Ram Bahadur Thapa and another from General Secretary Shankar Pokharel.

When the task force couldn't reach agreement, Gyawali technically an outsider to the task force was brought in on Oli's instructions to merge both into a single, acceptable version. The result was a 29-page report.

The report instead of giving a meaningful path forward instead focuses on concluding that reorganization isn't necessary and praises Chairman Oli rather than addressing the substance of the disagreement.

The dispute follows a pattern as on September 17, Gyawali publicly criticized the ruling RSP's attempted constitutional changes.
