The 6 -megawatt Relekhola Hydropower Project has stopped producing electricity after floods damaged its dam, the project's chief said.
The plant is in Annapurna Rural Muncipality-4, Narchyang, in Myagdi district. It is promoted by Hume Consult Pvt. Ltd.
Project chief Darshan Kafle said power generation has stopped completely. He said heavy rain, floods and landslides that hit the area from September 24 to 27, 2026(Asoj 8 to 11,2083 BS) have contributed to this. Floodwaters entered the intake of the base of Relekhola and damaged it. Reports confirming the full shutdown came out today on October 2, 2026.
The dam sits in a remote and isolated area. Landslides have blocked the roads leading to it which makes it hard to bring in workers and equipment, divert the water and get the plant running again.
Relekhola is one of more than 27 hydropower projects hit by the floods and landslides in late September 2026. Around 1,000 MW of generation capacity has gone off the national system.
Preliminary estimates suggest it could take a few months to bring back 190.4 MW from seven damaged projects, according to the Energy Minister. The seven projects are Nilgiri 1 and 2, Mistri, Thapa Khola, Rele khola and Ghalendi.
