Currently rulling party with nearly two-third majority seats at house of representatives RSP has kicked off an on-the-ground audit across the province, trying to figure out why its local conventions kept collapsing in seven out of eight districts.
It's not a small embarrassment. Because those conventions never happened properly, RSP had to fall back on old, outdated representatives at its big national gathering in Chitwan back in Asar a workaround that says a lot about how shaky the party's grassroots structure still is in a province where it actually won a lot of seats.
A five-person team, led by Joint General Secretary Hari Dhakal, got the green light at the party's central committee meeting on August 21.
They started in Parsa,it being the only district where the convention had actually gone through ,then worked their way across Bara, Rautahat, Sarlahi, Dhanusha and Mahottari over the following days.
RSP did amazingly well at the ballot box in Madhesh, but doing well on election day and actually running a functioning local party organization are turning out to be two different things currently particularly on the province. We saw a flavor of this same friction days ago when Education Minister Sasmit Pokharel got heckled by his own party's local leaders in Siraha.
No final report from the audit team has come out yet.
