The oath taking ceremony of 33 nominated central commmittee members of CPN-UML is scheduled to be held today. The CPN-UML Central Committee meeting held in the first week of Ashwin had nominated 33 leaders to the Central Committee as per the statute.
Party Chairman KP Sharma OLi will administer the oath to the newly inducted members, who hail from diverse districts across the country. The ceremony was earlier scheduled to be conducted for Thursday but had to be rescheduled followiing the death of Ghanendra Basnet, a prominent figure in the historic Jhapa uprising.
The oath taking program will commence at 3 PM at the CPN-UML central office in Chyasal, according to Niraj Acharya, who leads the party's Publicity and Publication Department. Chairman KP Sharma Oli will preside over the ceremony and administer the oath of office and secrecy to the 33 nominated members.
The Central Committee session held from 5-8 Ashwin (21-24 Sep 2026) selected the 33 leaders for nominations under provisions in the party statute. Those appointments fill remaining positions following the party's 11th General Convention.
Nominated Central Committee members include Kashinath Adhikari (Chitwan), Devraj Ghimire (Jhapa), Hari Rizal (Pyuthan), Pasang Sherpa (Taplejung), Narendra Bhattarai (Ilam), Nandaram Devkota (Khotang), Dharma Giri (Pyuthan), Narayan Gharti (Jajarkot), Bidyasundar Shakya (Kathmandu), Shantilal Mahat (Jumla), Polten Chepang Gurung (Manang), Prem Dangal (Kathmandu), Surendra Udash (Bhojpur), Binod Pandey (Kathmandu), Pushparaj Shrestha (Sindhuli), Vimla Ghimire (Kapilvastu). Similarly, Shivamaya Tumhamphe (Morang), Kaushila Khatri (Jajarkot), Januka Simkhada (Dhading), Bina Bastola (Bhaktapur) are included. Those adjusted from other parties include Mohammad Istiyak Rai (Banke), Pradip Yadav (Parsa), Abdul Hussain Ansari (Sunsari), DB Karki (Syangja), Bhawani Khapung (Tehrathum), Deepak Saud (Achham), Jay Golay Tamang (Kathmandu), Dharmaraj Niroula (Sunsari), Ravi Chamling (Khotang), Binod Pahadi (Rupandehi), Shreeprasad Sharma (Baglung) Ramprit Ram ( Siraha ) and Dhruv Bisht (Bhaktapur).
Under CPN-UML's organizational statute, the party chairman holds the authority to nominate members to the Central Committee to fill vacancies or ensure adequate representation of different groups. Once nominated, these members enjoy the same privileges and responsibilities as those elected to the Central Committee.
The nomination of 33 new central committee members comes as CPN-UML, Nepal's mian opposition party, works to strengthen its organizational structure and prepare for future political challenges. The party has been critical of the current government led by PM Balendra Shah.
Following today's oath-taking ceremony , the 33 new members will formally join the Central Committee and participate in party decision- making processes. They will be eligible to attend central committee meetings, contribute to policy discussions, and represent the party in various capacities.
