Nepal's stock market didn't open Monday not because of a holiday, but because the system behind all 72 brokers simply stopped working.

NEPSE cancels Monday's trading entirely

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) suspended all regular share trading on Monday.

A technical failure was experienced at Data Hub Pvt. Ltd., the data center hosting servers for all 72 broker companies which left the exchange unable to operate.

Citing Rule 21(1) of the Securities Listing and Trading Regulations and a formal request from the Stock Broker Association of Nepal, NEPSE opted to suspend trading entirely rather than risk further system damage by operating under the unresolved fault.

This is a rare full-day trading suspension for NEPSE, except from routine closures like weekends or public holidays.

Somehow, it also reflects an infrastructure failure rather than a scheduled closure and comes at a moment when Nepal's broader financial and governance systems have already faced scrutiny following the flood disaster and various institutional controversies this year.

NEPSE apologized for the inconvenience.
